Which Bond?
« on: June 28, 2009, 07:34:23 PM »

John,

I saw on your website that you're a fan of Ian Fleming's novels and that readers who enjoyed them might enjoy Death Dealt the Hand.

Okay, this may be a little off topic, but of the different actors who played James Bond, which is your favorite?

I guess mine would be Roger Moore. I liked his refined, self-assured demeanor. Yes, I think they all had it, just his fit my idea of Bond the best.

On the other hand, he's the first actor to play Bond that I clearly recall. It's possible that 'imprint' has affected my view--him being the first and all others appear as imitations. I get that from older folks who enjoyed Sean Connery as James Bond and stick with him being the best in the role.

Any thoughts?

Hi Terry,

Thought I had this set to notify me if anyone posted, but didn't get notified. Sorry I just now saw your post.

I know I am in the minority here, but my personal favorite movie Bond was Timothy Dalton. I really thought he nailed the character Fleming wrote about. Also, the two movies he was in were believable. (Perhaps the fact that I was just finishing up high school at the time Dalton's Bond appeared had something to do with it too, although I remember going to the theater to see Roger Moore in several adventures.) When I wrote Death Dealt the Hand, I wanted to create a horrible premise, but keep the action realistic.

Although the most recent Bond movies are getting back to believable action, I felt Dalton portrayed Bond out for revenge better in License to Kill than Craig did in Quantum of Solace.

What's your favorite Bond novel? Mine is Moonraker. Even though the premise is outdated now, I liked the way the tension built up through the climax. Also had an ending that was quite different than any Bond movie I recall!

John,

It probably didn't notifiy you because although it is in your section of the forum, I started the topic.

I did enjoy Moonraker, and Dalton was okay, although his Bond movies felt closer to typical action-adventure flicks.

I guess I would say that For Your Eyes Only would be up there, topping my favorites. Of course, I kind of like Cold-War movies like The Hunt for Red October too.
